Road Materials Workgear
Road Materials Workgear is a well respected Dunedin company, first established in 1956. Locally owned and operated by the Owen family, they specialise in quality brand name work gear.
Originally the company was founded to manufacture and market Bitumen Emulsion, with the foundation shareholders Eric Lundquist, Septimus Owen, John Owen, Jules Fulton, Bob Hogan, and Ralph Maxwell, who all had strong ties with the roading industry. The company had the benefit of the expertise of these shareholders and their families for a number of years.
In the 1980's however, with the selling of their Bitumen Emulsion licence, the emphasis changed from roading materials as such, to the supply of work clothing and safety gear. Some quantities of cold mix asphalt were retained for the home handy-man market, and is still available today.
In the 1990's it was decided that Road Materials Workgear would work better with an owner/operator, so in 1997 Roger and Anne Owen bought out the remaining shareholders. Michael and Benjamin Owen now work for the company making them the fourth generation of the Owen family to be involved with Road Materials Workgear.
Today Road Materials Workgear supplies a large number of companys throughout New Zealand including Fulton Hogan, EnviroWaste, Oceana Gold, Goughs CAT, Cook Brothers Construction, Palmers Mechanical, Edward Gibbon, Dunedin City Council, Southern District Health Board, Road Metals and Farra Engineering.
